So You Wanna Be A Teacher is a community for young teachers, college students in teacher preparation programs, and high school students interested in becoming teachers. Here, we discuss the reality of teaching and the lessons learned on the job that they do not prepare you for in college. No topic is off limits, and we are free to say what we need to say in order to feel as prepared and as empowered as possible when it comes to leading the next generation of young people into the world.

I started this blog during my second year of teaching high school as a way to reflect on my own experiences and connect with others while continuing to do the thing I’ve always loved doing ever since I was a kid – help others! As I grow and learn on the job, hopefully the topics covered here will grow and develop, and the members of the community can grow and develop too. I am by no means an expert, but there are lessons I learn every day that I wish I had been better prepared for coming out of college.

My partner is a teacher as well and began the year before I did. Together, we have endless conversations about how to be the best we can be and some of the experiences we share. From those conversations, this blog was born. Please enjoy, and leave your experiences somewhere on the site to join the discussion. If anything, I hope you feel affirmed after visiting.
